THOMAS BRUSH

THOMAS H. BRUSH was born in Atlanta, Georgia, but his family is native to Charleston, S.C., where they were active in real estate for over forty years. Brush attended the University of Georgia, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in political science in 1976. He obtained his Juris Doctor degree from the University of South Carolina in 1979. Brush opened the Brush Law Firm in October of 1980. He concentrates his law practice in the foreclosure, collection, real estate, and creditor bankruptcy matters and also handles all matters involving real property.

In addition, he has been an adjunct professor at the Citadel Business School since 2003, teaching Real Estate and Business Law.

Brush is a member of the Olde Charlestowne Sertoma Club and is past president of Sertoma International. Sertoma is an international service organization assisting those with speech and hearing disabilities. For the past fifteen years, he has been a certified trainer and a professional speaker for Sertoma, giving numerous motivational speeches and personal development seminars dealing with accountability and leadership across the country. He has been a high school football official since 1985 and can be found on the field most Thursday and Friday evenings.

He and his wife, Kim Sexton Brush, have three daughters, all residing and working in the Charleston area

CHRIS LANNING

SENIOR PARTNER

J. Chris Lanning was born in Statesville, North Carolina where he remained until college. He graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1996, where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha Order. He graduated from Cumberland School of Law in 2001. While in law school, he was a member of the Henry Upson Sims Moot Court Board and won the Donworth Freshman Moot Court Competition. He was admitted to the South Carolina Bar in 2005 and the United States District Court, District of South Carolina in 2006. He is a member of the South Carolina and Charleston County Bar Associations.

KIM BRUSH

ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT

Kim has worked with the firm as book keeper since the firm was established in 1980. In addition to her accounting duties, she serves as “business ambassador,” helping to grow the firm.

Away from the office, she enjoys helping those less fortunate though her volunteer work with Sertoma Club.

Kim and Tommy were childhood sweethearts and have been married since 1976

BRANDI BRUSH FORDHAM

PARALEGAL

Brandi has been working for Brush Law Firm since 2002.  She started as the receptionist and then became the Bankruptcy Paralegal and Real Estate Assistant.  In 2014, Brandi assumed the reins as the Real Estate Paralegal in the Charleston Office.  In addition, she is responsible for the IT needs of the firm and is her father’s personal assistant.

Brandi has two daughters, Peyton and Jordan, and resides with her husband and his two children in Summerville.

She is also Kim and Tommy’s middle daughter.

MELISSA SMITH

PARALEGAL

Melissa was previously employed by Brush Law Firm for 13 years.  She returned in 2015 as a Real Estate Paralegal.  She is a graduate of the University of North Carolina with a Bachelor’s Degree in Applied Science for Paralegal.  Melissa is married and has two children, Nicholas and Ashton.  She is also a grandmother of three.

SARAH BRUSH

TITLE ABSTRACTOR

Sarah has been with the firm since 1985 as title abstractor.  She is recognized by her peers as one of the best abstractors in the Charleston area.

Outside of the office Sarah enjoys being involved in her church.

She is also married to Tommy’s older brother.

CINDY WHITE

PARALEGAL

Cindy has been with the firm since September 2021. She has been in the legal field for over 30 years and specializes in probate and estate planning.

Cindy has lived in Texas, Kansas, Arizona and Nevada but has been happy to call Charleston home since 2015.  She is married and has one grandson who also lives in Charleston.
